untitled # 168 [1987]

The 1986-1989 Disasters series shows Sherman commenting on the chaos and disorder of the world around us. In the series, Sherman uses the body as a metaphor for society. In each of the images, the body is surrounded by varoius objects, all of which show specific meaning to the image. In Untitled # 186 (shown above), Sherman comments on the role of women in technology. In the image, a female suit is shown in the middle without a body inside of it. Surrounded by various technological products such as a television, a keyboard, and a printer, this shows how Sherman believed that women were "invisible" in the field of technology.
