untitled # 122 [1983]
The Fashion
series first began in 1983 when Interview
Magazine commisioned Sherman to create a
portfolio of fashion images for the magazine.
Dressed in designer fashions of Jean-Paul
Gaultier and Commes de Garcons, the 1983 series
shows Sherman mocking the typical models of the
period. At the time, models looked bery bland
with no real expressions. In contrast to that,
Sherman photographed herself as delighted and
happy in some of the images, and deranged and
almost psychotic in others, such as in Untitled
#122 (pictured above). In the early ninties,
Sherman again created images for the japanese
house of Commes de Garcons which appeared in a
catalouge showcasing the line. |
